PhD Student positions at the Structural Biology Laboratory 

at the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology of the University of Gdansk and Medical University of Gdansk

 

We are looking for PhD Students to join the Structural Biology Laboratory at the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology of the University of Gdansk and Medical University of Gdansk (IFB UG & MUG), Gdansk, Poland, headed by Dr. Michal R. Szymanski. PhD Students will join our SONATA BIS project to investigate the mechanism of human mitochondrial DNA replication. The ideal candidate will:

1. hold a Master's degree in biotechnology, chemistry, bioinformatics, biology or related fields
2. have documented experience working with laboratory techniques used in protein biochemistry, molecular biology or structural biology. Documented hands-on experience working with enzymes involved in mitochondrial DNA replication and repair will be an additional advantage;
3. have excellent written and oral communication skills in English;
4. show a good level of independence, self-motivation, reliability and analytical thinking;
5. on the first day of employment the candidate must be enrolled in the PhD program of the Intercollegiate Biotechnology Doctoral School of University of Gdańsk and Medical University of Gdańsk.

You will be involved in the SONATA BIS 12 project entitled Structural organization of the human mitochondrial replisome. You will be responsible for:

1. implementation of a research project at the Structural Biology Laboratory;
2. designing and conducting experiments to determine the structure and function of the human mitochondrial replisome;
3. analysis and interpretation of results and their preparation in the form of reports and presentations for seminars and conferences;
4. participation in the writing of manuscripts;
5. supervision of junior scientists participating in the project;
6. active participation in seminars of the research group, faculty seminars and scientific conferences and trainings;
